So here is the big update. He is writing regularly on Thursdays and sounds really good. Out latest understanding is that he will be leaving the MTC around May 14th.
He says the language is coming slowly but he is feeling pretty good about it. His teacher (shown below) is a hard driver, but is helping them improve.
